The Advantages of a Bellows Seal
Tuesday 18th June 2024
Today's blog highlights the advantages of a bellows seal over a mechanical seal.
There are advantages to having a bellows seal instead of the standard mechanical seal. Filton use a Bellows seal within all their standard Rotary Unions, the operating temperature range can be between -20⁰C to +300⁰C.
The advantages are;
- A Bellows seal does not require an elastomeric ‘O’ Ring which can limit the operating temperature and chemical compatibility.
- A Bellows seal does not have any moving parts with close clearances which could seize due to corrosion or debris within the system.
However, should your application fall outside the standard operating parameters for the Filton Bellows seal, for example, higher working pressures and shaft speeds for machine tools, we can offer the Filton Mechanical seal as an alternative.
